Ok, it's time to talk about my reasons for deciding to give up my home and travel. There is an economic component to my decision. Of course, that's not the only reason but as I looked for a way to survive on my limited income I liked the idea of a tiny house. No mortgage, low utilities, a comfortable place to age. The problem was finding a place to put it that wouldn't blow my budget. And then the prices of them just exploded. And in Portland, everything is really expensive.

About that time i came across a Bob Wells video. For those of you who don't know who he is: he has lived in a van for many years, knows how to manage the basics (toileting, cooking, sleeping) and he helps others to manage on a low budget. He also sponsors a big event every year for nomads to meet and greet. It also serves as a teaching event and caravans form for the winter season.
Most nomads boondock or dry camp so there are skills and strategies that are helpful. It's a cheaper way to travel because you don't pay constant campground fees and you don't drive everyday taxing your gas budget.

A lightbulb went on and I thought "I can do that!" I watched more videos and saw low income people in all kinds of vehicle (cars, vans, animal trailers and rv's) happily thriving.

Since then I've been watching videos to learn more, reading about solar, cooling, heating and making a wish list on Amazon.
In about a week, I'll be closing on my house, buying a trailer and a truck, ordering a bunch of stuff from Amazon and hitting the road by the week before Thanksgiving. I hope to spend Thanksgiving in Arizona.

My criteria for a rig. I want to be able to sew. I have been a crafter all my life but work, long commutes, family etc., etc., etc. have made it impossible to create. Creating (sewing, jewelry making, paper art) are what makes me a better person. I get into a zone, I forget about the worries on my mind. I heal. So being able to create means I need a table and room to store stuff.
Also, I need to bring along my stationary bike and rowing machine. I need to use them everyday. No way aroung that. My last criteria: I want an oven. I am not a great baker but I want to bake a little to share with others. I'm also a bookkeeper and supplement my income a little with that work.

That is why I decided on a truck and trailer. My exercise equipment can go in the back of the truck along with some of my supplies. There are other reasons but this entry is getting too long.

Back again soon.
